Tips for Saving Money at Costco

Costco is known for delivering exceptional value on its wide selection of unique items. From gourmet foods and health and beauty products to household decor and home improvement items, Costco can be a great place to shop for yourself or your family.

There are several strategies to help you maximize the benefits of shopping at Costco. Let’s explore three key ways to make the most of your Costco experience.

Visit a Costco warehouse with a plan

As with any shopping trip, it’s helpful to have a game plan before you leave home. Compare your shopping list with any deals featured on Costco.com, the Costco Mobile® App or in the Costco Savings Booklet. If a product you don’t need right away (but will be used in the near future) is on sale, it might be worth purchasing it now. Keep in mind that items on Costco.com or the Costco Mobile® App may be more expensive or not available for purchase in the warehouse.

Consider a Costco Executive Membership

Gold Star Membership gives you access to Costco’s warehouses worldwide. It also includes one free Household Card, valid at all Costco locations.

If you shop at Costco regularly, you may also want to consider an Executive Membership. For $65 more a year than the Gold Star Membership fee, this membership provides the same features, plus:

  • Annual 2% Reward (up to $1,250) on qualified Costco purchases; terms, conditions and exclusions apply
  • Additional benefits on Costco Services, including Costco Travel

These rewards and benefits can help you make the most out of the great selection, merchandise and service Costco has to offer.

Use the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi

If you have an active Costco membership, you may consider applying for the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi to get more out of your membership. This credit card can help you earn Costco Cash Back Rewards on your purchases, including:

  • Earn 5% cash back rewards on gas at Costco
  • Earn 4% cash back rewards on other eligible gas and electric vehicle (EV) charging. The 5% and 4% earn is on a combined $7,000 spend per year, and then 1% thereafter
  • Earn 3% cash back rewards on restaurants and eligible travel, including Costco Travel
  • Earn 2% cash back rewards on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com
  • Earn 1% cash back on all other purchases

Cash back rewards will be provided as a credit card reward certificate in February billing statements, redeemable for cash or merchandise, in a single transaction, at U.S. Costco warehouses, including Puerto Rico, through December 31st of each year.

Plus, the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi comes with travel benefits (such as worldwide car rental insurance and no foreign transaction fees), and there’s no annual fee with your paid Costco membership.

Costco already offers its members great value for their everyday spending. With these tips, you may be able to get even more out of your membership.

*Terms, conditions and exclusions apply to the 2% Costco Executive Reward. See the membership counter for details.
