A Costco membership gives you a range of spending opportunities that offer great value and quality. Let’s take a look at three ways to sign up for a Costco membership and how to get more out of your membership once you’ve joined.
1. Sign up for a Costco membership in person
When you visit a Costco membership counter, you’ll present your photo ID, provide basic information and have your photo taken for your membership card. While meeting with the membership clerk, you can find the membership option that best fits your needs: Gold Star, Business or Executive Membership.
2. Sign up for a Costco membership online
You can also sign up for a Costco membership at Costco.com using your smartphone, tablet or computer. Visit Costco.com and select membership on the navigation menu. You’ll find information about the available membership options and can make your purchase once you find the best fit for you.
After signing up, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Take your email and valid photo ID to the Costco membership counter. An employee will take your photo and issue your new membership card. You can also download the Costco Mobile® App to access your digital membership card.
3. Sign up for a Costco membership over the phone
Another easy way to sign up is by calling Costco Member Services at 1-800-774-2678. You’ll be asked to provide the same basic information as when signing up in person or online, and you can speak with the Member Services representative about any questions you may have. Costco membership cards require a photo, so you’ll also go into a Costco warehouse to have your picture taken.
How to get the most out of being a Costco member
Once you have your Costco membership, you may apply for the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi, which is available exclusively to Costco members. This credit card has no annual fee1 with your paid Costco membership and offers cardholders great opportunities to earn Costco Cash Back Rewards. You earn:
- 5% cash back rewards on gas at Costco
- 4% cash back rewards on other eligible gas and electric vehicle (EV) charging. The 5% and 4% earn is on a combined $7,000 spend per year, and then 1% thereafter
- 3% cash back rewards on restaurants and eligible travel, including Costco Travel
- 2% cash back rewards on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com

Cash back rewards will be provided as an annual credit card reward certificate in February billing statements, redeemable for cash or merchandise at U.S. Costco warehouses, including Puerto Rico.
