How to Transfer American Airlines Miles

The AAdvantage® program can help you make the most of your travel. You can earn miles when you fly with participating airlines and book car rentals, hotel stays, vacation packages, cruises and dining experiences with participating partners. There are also AAdvantage® credit cards that let you earn miles on everyday purchases.

Members can redeem AAdvantage® miles for things like flights, cabin upgrades, car rentals, hotel stays and complete vacation packages. You can also transfer miles to another member for a fee.

Here’s your guide to transferring your AAdvantage® miles.

Reasons to transfer American Airlines miles

There are a couple of situations when transferring miles can make sense:

  • To book award travel: If you don’t have enough miles to redeem for a flight award or other award on your own, it may make sense to pool AAdvantage® miles with another member to save money.
  • To prevent miles from expiring: AAdvantage® miles typically expire after 24 months of inactivity, which happens if there's no earning or redemption within that period. If you're nearing the 2-year mark and don’t plan to redeem or earn more miles before then, it may make sense to transfer them to someone else.

How to transfer AAdvantage® miles to another account
