A balance transfer with the Citi Double Cash® Card may help you deal with high-interest credit card debt. Transferring one or more credit card balances to a single account with a lower interest rate could help make monthly payments much easier to manage.
Fortunately, the Citi Double Cash® Card allows balance transfers. It even offers a low promotional APR for 18 months from the date you open an account, as long as the transfer is completed within the first 4 months.† This introductory period creates a generous window to pay down your principal balance without accruing additional interest charges on the transferred balance.
If consolidating your credit card debt sounds like a good move, and you want to take advantage of your new credit card benefits, here’s how you can get started.
How to initiate a Citi Double Cash® Card balance transfer
Requesting a balance transfer on your Citi Double Cash® Card is generally straightforward. Follow these 4 steps to complete the process.
Apply for the Citi Double Cash® Card
To get started, you'll first need to apply for the credit card. Visit the Citi Double Cash® Card application page to fill out your details and submit your request. Once approved, you'll receive your new physical credit card in the mail.
Request a balance transfer
Once you are approved, you may see an option to request a balance transfer immediately. Otherwise, once you receive your new credit card, you can log in to your account to request a balance transfer online or through the Citi Mobile® App.
You can also contact customer service to request a balance transfer. You will find the contact number printed on the back of your credit card. For TTY assistance, Citi also accepts 711 or other Relay Service to help with balance transfers.
Provide information and confirm
Provide details about the non-Citi account balances you wish to transfer, including the creditor account number and amount to transfer. Keep in mind that your total balance transfer amount, including transfer fees, must be within your available credit limit or any other limit Citi communicates. Balance transfers are made available at Citi's discretion.
Wait for the balance transfer confirmation
It will take at least 14 days after your credit card account is opened to process the balance transfer payments. During this time, you may cancel or modify your request by calling the number on the back of your card. You should continue to make required minimum payments to your other creditors until you've confirmed the transfer is complete.
Once your transfer is complete, the available credit limit for your new Citi Double Cash® Card will be reduced by the total amount of the transfers, including any approved balance transfer fees.
