Citi mobilizes 700 volunteers in Hungary to drive employee engagement through community action

Budapest, September 9, 2026 – More than 700 Citi colleagues in Hungary took part in this year’s Global Community Day, contributing to 8 full-day external volunteering events and 3 in-house initiatives in partnership with 8 community organizations.

“What makes the program especially meaningful in Hungary is that it has a visible effect in two directions at once, it supports local communities, while also bringing colleagues together around a shared purpose. That is the reason it has become such an important part of how we think about culture and engagement locally,” said Kriszta Pusztai, Country HR Officer for Citi in Hungary.

This year, Citi Hungary volunteers joined a wide range of community-focused initiatives, from preparing meals for people in need and supporting vulnerable children, to improving facilities at an animal shelter, a horse therapy center and elderly care homes. Together, volunteers cooked 1,000 hot meals, helped prepare and package food equivalent to more than 90,000 meals, donated blood that would save an estimated 141 lives, fulfilled Children’s Day wishes for 100 children in need, and renovated two elderly care homes serving 138 residents. In parallel, colleagues also raised more than HUF 1 million for a local children’s hospital through an employee-led charity initiative.

Erika Irish Brown, Head of Talent Management and Engagement, visited Citi Hungary during these efforts and as part of a broader celebration of our workforce. She shared:

“One of the best ways to drive engagement and retention is to create opportunities for colleagues to connect with one another and their communities through service. Those shared experiences build relationships, strengthen culture and help people feel more connected to the organization.”

Global Community Day is Citi’s annual volunteer campaign, bringing together colleagues, alumni and family members across more than 80 countries and territories. Running since 2006, the initiative has generated more than 1.3 million volunteer engagements worldwide. Citi describes volunteering as an important part of how it supports local communities and strengthens connection across its global organization.
