Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. recognized Anna Mozdzierz, PhD. for her special contribution to scientific development in economics and finance in her dissertation, "Public finance imbalance."

In the winning dissertation, the author analyzes problems of public finance balance in view of the economic crisis currently affecting the global economy. A. Mozdzierz, PhD, addresses the question of the interrelation between budget deficit and economic conditions and shows that European integration could help restore the public finance balance in Poland.

The author is an assistant professor at the Department of Finance in the Financial Policy Institute at the Cracow University of Economics. The scope of her interest includes, among other topics: public finance, state finance imbalance, problems of transition of the Polish economy as well as the financial and social consequences of integration processes. She is also the author of numerous publications and studies in the area of public finance.

The competition for 'The Award of Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A.' is organized by the Leopold Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy and is aimed at promoting the most valuable publications and special achievements in the scope of economics and finance theories. The Management Board of the Bank launched the award in 1995 on the 125th anniversary of Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A.. Requests to compete for the award are filed by authorities of universities and economic institutes with registered offices in Poland as well as banks and institutions of economic self-governments, after obtaining recommendations from universities or institutions. Financial publishing houses may also compete. The main prize is PLN 40,000.

The award ceremony traditionally takes place during an economic conference. This year's conference covers the challenges of Polish fiscal policy in the view of the crisis. Piotr Kalisz, Chief Economist at Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A., led the discussion. Panelists included: Ludwik Kotecki, State Undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance, Professor Stanislaw Gomulka, Chief Economist at Business Centre Club, Rafal Antczak, Vice-President at Deloitte Business Consulting and Anna Mozdzierz, PhD, winner of this year's award.
