Competition for Bank Handlowy Award for Special Achievement in the Theory of Economics and Finance is organized by the Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy to promote the most valuable publications in the area of economics and finance.

Bank Handlowy Award was founded by the Management Board of the founder in 1995, on the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. Institutions entitled to nominate publications for the competition include authorities of economic universities and institutes based in Poland, banks and local government institutions, upon providing a recommendation from respective university or institute authorities. Nominations may also be submitted by economic publishing houses. Winner of the contest receives a PLN 40,000 award.

The winner of the fifteenth edition is Anna Moździerz, PhD, from Cracow University of Economics for the publication: "Nierównowaga finansów publicznych (Public Finances Imbalance)". Anna Moździerz is a lecturer at Financial Policy Unit, Finance Department, and researcher in the studies conducted by the Finance Department. Her areas of interest include public finance, public finances imbalance, state financial policy, economic transformation problems in Poland, economy of the public sector, financial and social consequences of integration processes.

For many years the closing galas of Bank Handlowy Award have been combined with economic conferences. This year the conference focused on challenges to Polish fiscal policy in the face of economic crisis. The discussion was moderated by Piotr Kalisz - Senior Economist, Bank Handlowy w Warszawie, and speakers included: Ludwik Kotecki - Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Finance, Prof. Stanisław Gomułka - Senior Economist, Business Centre Club, Rafał Antczak - Vice President, Deloitte Business Consulting, and Anna Moździerz - winner of 2009 Bank Handlowy Award.
