Citibank and Indus Hospital Join Hands for the Community |
November 10, 2009
On Thursday 9 October Citibank employees visited the Indus Hospital for a presentation and tour of the hospital and to meet with the people behind its success story. Citibank aims to closely engage its human resource through such volunteer programs/events, in alignment with its aim to better communities through its presence. The event was well attended by Citibank's senior management team including its CCO and MD Arif Usmani and regional Public Affairs Head, Karim Seifeddine who was visiting Pakistan at the time. Dr Bari and Dr Zafar Zaidi were leading the event on behalf of Indus Hospital.
The event began with an interactive presentation by Dr Zaidi on the hospital, its history, salient features and vision going forward. Citibank's employees were surprised to learn that Indus has a completely paper free environment as well as live video conferencing facilities with medics in the US. Additionally, there is no cash counter in the entire building, and the only cash transactions are donations made to the hospital.
Citibank's employees were given a guided tour of the hospital after the session, being briefed on the various new technologies/research being undertaken by experts at Indus Hospital, in liaison with Harvard, John Hopkins etc. Such community driven events are a regular feature of Citibank's CSR efforts and form a build up to its Global Community Day in November each year. In the past Citi's employees have painted schools, organized blood drives and supported money management programs for underprivileged students. Health and the environment are a focal point for Citi’s efforts on the philanthropic front.
