Krzysztof Stasch
Management Associate
Education: MSc European Political Economy (LSE 2004) MSc International Business (AE Poznan Poland 2002),
Region: CEEMEA
I joined the Management Associate program in Warsaw in the end of 2005 year after I graduated in European Political Economy at London School of Economics.
In the first year I had a chance to work in the Markets & Banking business in Platinum Corporate Credit, where I dealt with global relationship customers and leading local firms from the credit perspective. I was responsible for analysis of new and existing credit requests within the Platinum segment. I evaluated multiple inquires under some time pressure in order that our sales people could deliver timely decisions to clients within established performance standards.
Part of my responsibilities also included post approval issues to ensure quality transactions, early problem recognition and their appropriate resolution. For department purposes I prepared industry studies covering comprehensive analysis of different sectors. I helped to plan the annual budget for the team dealing with Global Relationship Clients.
On my second rotation I worked as a Relationship Manager with own clients portfolio within GTS coverage and gained significant experience by dealing with clients and concentrating on their needs. This included interaction with various departments from operations and technology, through legal, to risk. In the meantime I implemented new product (mobile payments) with GTS strategic projects bureau. This gave me insights as to how the bank is creating it's products and preparing new offers for clients.
In beginning of 2007 I was approached by head of treasury to take an interesting new assignment in Bucharest Romania. I was relocated for half a year to take part in a sales and marketing campaign for the FX on-line trading platform. While working there I had a chance to interact with the local team and also to communicate with support from London and Bahrain. It gave me great pleasure to solve problems together with my team and watch how the business grew day by day from scratch.
In my spare time along with colleagues I have had a chance to see at all the places of interest and grasp much of the flavor of Romanian culture and charm.
Throughout my time at Citi, I was coached continuously not only to facilitate my integration to the bank culture but also to be educated on product range and customer base. I had the privilege of working with some of the most professional, dedicated, and talented people in the industry. I experienced real hands-on challenges working in strategic forum brainstorming various business issues with senior management including CFO and heads of different departments. My mentor was a Country Corporate Officer who provided me with wisdom, based on his own experiences, as well as invaluable advice. The advantage of being at Citi is that there are so many people to reach out to and that each and every person has their own history to tell.
My advice is at all times to keep eyes open for opportunities. Citi is a vast, diverse global organization that offers great numbers of gratifying careers. The other advice is not to be afraid of tailoring one's career to suit individual skills, needs, and aspirations, and to take advantage of exploring job opportunities in various departments in different parts of the world.
