Roles of an Analyst

Roles an Analyst may undertake:

Application Developer- a Technical Analyst joining a new team may get involved with an existing application or with a brand new application. The most general parts of an application include but are not limited to front end, back end, maintenance and support. Responsibilities vary tremendously and may include setting the life cycle for a project, interacting with the businesses and the specific users who are requesting the development of the application, collaborating with other groups within Technology on the application development, as well as interacting with external contacts. Just in the implementation process, a developer may work on the user interface, coding in various languages, database, talking with the business side, testing, demonstration, documents and more.

Business Analyst- translates business requirements and needs into information technology solutions. A Business Analyst is the bridge between various businesses and the Technology staff. Key responsibilities include understanding Business needs to be able to translate those needs into Business requirement documents, translating Business Requirement Documents to Technical Specification Documents, as well as various project management tasks. Being the face of the Development team, the Business Analyst is expected to interact with the various businesses and organizations facing their team. The role provides great business exposure opportunity as well as builds on communication, writing, and speaking skills.

Control- The control organization has three different sectors: Compliance, Information Security and Business continuity. As a Technical Analyst in the Control group, your responsibilities may include ensuring projects in Technology are compliant with the Citi Information Technology Management Policy, that our clients' information is not being made publicly available to any unauthorized individual, and, in case of any sudden disasters, make certain that the business can continue its daily operations at another location at any time via a contingency plan(s).

Database Administrator- work to ensure that the information from clients and employees of Citi Markets and Banking is safe and secure. Database Administrators assist in managing the data servers of various applications in the company. This may entail performance tuning of databases to ensure applications run as quickly as possible, consulting and providing solutions to development groups on security and disaster recovery methods, troubleshooting any problems on the data server that may occur and/or maintaining technical documents.

Production Support- often entails direct interfacing with business clients, global application teams, and database and infrastructure specialists. In this role, typically, Analysts either spend 100% of their time interacting with the business and operations on problem prevention OR spend most of their time acting in an application developer role, dedicating their time to support teams only when they are unable to solve a problem on their own. The production support roles give Analysts an increased exposure to the business, related business areas, interaction with global clients and teams, and an arena to showcase quick decision-making skills.

Project Administration- Analysts work closely with directors and their direct managers to plan and forecast budgets, manage headcount, develop and track hardware and software inventories, and track project progress as well as maintain group financials. The position involves coordination with a wide variety of internal employees and external clients. This role fosters strong writing, presentation and communication skills - must-haves in all areas of business. Project administration allows Analysts the opportunity to utilize their critical thinking and analytical skills to approach problems with creative solutions.

Software Quality Assurance- play the role of "Trusted Process Advisor,” making Project teams aware of the various Policies and Standards, facilitate/guide the Organizational process implementation, evaluate the Project deliverables and identify the Process non-compliance issues in order to ensure Process effectiveness.

Technical Architect- work behind the scenes in a supportive role for project managers developing new applications. They are responsible for offering development assistance, understanding business controls and limitations, and offering creative solutions. They assess feasibility and gauge the risk of projects. Architects often work closely with developers to find cost-efficient solutions and make recommendations for hardware and software usage in a given project so that they can gauge project direction in the vision of the organization.

Our Programs

The Citi GWM Technical Analyst Program offers a fast-track path to becoming a world-class Technology Professional. This opportunity is offered to 15 - 20 exceptional undergraduate students per year. As part of this select group, you will be exposed to the GWM’s Technology business through a two-year rotational/training program. Depending upon your previous experiences as well as skills, your job may involve software development and enhancement, database administration, systems administration and other technology tools to support the GWM sales force and clients alike. Over two years, you will have two rotations, working with a specific team relating to areas such as strategic projects, regional production, information security and project office. Typically you will also have exposure to strategic projects and senior management so that you can learn their insights and perspectives in the dynamic world of technology. All rotations and final placements will be U.S.-based. International rotations (although possible) depend completely upon the needs of the business.

Recruitment Process

Citi Global Wealth Management Technology begins the formal IT Analyst recruiting process in September in the form of an on-campus presentation. All students are invited to attend this event to learn about the culture, the business, and the technology at Citi. Subsequently, job descriptions are posted through university career centers. All students will need to apply via career services with their school as well as to the Citi website. Once all resumes have been collected and reviewed, a closed, targeted list of first round interview candidates is compiled. First round interviews take place in the September-October timeframe and successful interviewees subsequently go directly to Super Day. Citi on campus interviews are typically 30 minutes; Super Days typically consist of three to four 30-minute interviews with a committee of Technology professionals. Offers are given as soon after Super Day as possible.

Stage 1: On-Campus Presentations: beginning in September. Interested applicants are encouraged to attend.

Stage 2: Applications: submitted via your career services AND the Citi web-site. Campus Recruitment reviews applications.

Stage 3: First-Round Interviews: take place on campus in the September/October time frame. Citi on-campus interviews are typically 30 minutes.
