History Citi has had a presence in Germany since 1926 when the City Bank of New York opened its first office in Berlin. This office was a precursor to today's Markets & Banking business, located in Frankfurt. In addition, in 1926 Kundenkredit GmbH was founded in the East-Prussian town of Konigsberg. In 1973, a majority of that consumer bank, which then operated under the name of KKB Kundenkreditbank in Dusseldorf, was acquired by the First National City Bank of New York. In 1991, it was renamed to Citibank Privatkunden, now known under the global name of Citi Businesses We are the world's leading global consumer banking business. In Germany, we operate in more than 340 locations and the headquarters are based in Dusseldorf. Our customer service centre with more than 2,000 employees is located in Duisburg. Our Global Consumer Group business in Germany combines the advantages of a branch bank with the attractive prices of a direct bank. We are the market leader in consumer loans, one of the largest credit card issuers and we offer wealth management services and checking accounts. Our Global Consumer Group business in Germany employs 6,800 people and serves 3.25 million customers. Our Markets & Banking business is headquartered in Frankfurt. With more than 400 employees, it serves the largest global corporations headquartered in Germany, institutional investors and the public sector. We work with the prominent financial institutions to provide a wide range of products and services, including corporate finance, cash, trade and treasury services, debt and equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, securities services, investments and financial products.
